STEPS to Stress Management -

STEPS "Simple Thoughts to
Experience Powers of Success"
What is Stress?
Stess is: “mental strain” or
“disruption”, and/or “biological threat”.
Everyone is affected by stress
- No matter what industry you work in, stress at work can
be a very real and overwhelming experience. The amount of employees suffering from stress and stress-related
illnesses is rapidly rising. Longer hours of work, low hourly rates of pay, under-staffing, bullying and job
insecurity all have some effect on most people's health, while people at the lower end of the job hierarchy
are, as ever, disproportionately affected.
- The American Institute of Stress reports that stress-related symptoms and
illnesses are costing industry a conservatively estimated $150 billion per year in absenteeism, company medical
expenses, and lost productivity.
- Gallup's annual Lifestyle poll finds Americans about equally likely to say they
do not have enough time to do what they want these days as to say they do. Most Americans experience stress in
the daily lives, including 4 in 10 who say they encounter it frequently. Single parents, working moms are most
likely to report enduring time pressures and stress.
- Stress costs the American industry more than $300 billion annually
($7,500/worker per year) due to absenteeism, lower productivity, and workers' compensation
claims.
- Antidepressant sales are increasing more than 29% per year and amounted
over $19.5 billion dollars in 2007.
- Stress increases turnover and new employees can easily cost between $3,000
(hourly) to over $100,000 (top executives) to locate, hire, and train.
There is good stress and bad stress. What is
your perception of stress?
We deal with stress in own ways, due to our programming and
response factors. What is good stress to one may not be the same to another. As women in the workforce, we have
learned how to juggle home and the work place, kids, schools, after hour games, placing food on the table, tending
to significate others or husband, manage the finances all tasks accordingly, with a smile!
Many of us find ways of coping with these work strains but the
pressure can easily get too much. One in five people – an estimated five million workers – is 'very' or 'extremely'
stressed at work.
Causes of stress in the
workplace
There are many situations that can lead to stress at
work. These
include:
•Poor relationships with fellow colleagues and other members
of staff
•Lack of consultation and communication
•Poor working conditions
•Having an unsupportive boss
•Too much pressure – unrealistic deadlines
•Work that's too difficult or not demanding enough
•Lack of responsibility in the workplace
•Jon insecurity and the threat of unemployment
•Bullying, racial or sexual harassment
•Feeling undervalued
•Too much interference with your private, social or family life
As the pressure mounts at a workplace, people tend to work
even harder to try to close the gap between what they're achieving and what they think they should be achieving,
and as a result, stop taking breaks and neglect their own needs.

Workplace
Stress
Stress and anxiety are known sources of diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Sometimes, we create "blocks"
that prevent us from getting out from under stress. Guided imagery can remove those blocks and return you to the
joy and enthusiasm you want from life while giving you the tools and strength to solve the sources of stress and
anxiety.
Teamwork
It can take years to build a team that shares the same goals and marches in the same direction, but it only takes a
short while of ignored stress to completely destroy that team. A solid stress management program can both prevent
this disaster and rebuild it when it occurs. Don't let your team crumble because of stress! There are answers!
Self
Esteem The self-esteem of your workgroup, department and entire company is only as good as the
self-esteem of the members that make it up. Giving people the tools to develop and keep good personal self-esteem
is an excellent investment in any well-run company. Your team deserves this too. Let us show you how.
Physical Effects
Workplace stress doesn't just affect productivity, it affects bodies too. Studies show that diminishing
productivity can be directly tied to a deterioration in personal health and vice versa. This impacts the number of
sick days employees take, workers compensation costs and much more. Effective management should include an eye to
personal stress - and the physical effects it causes. We'll show you ways to make sure this doesn't cost you time,
productivity, or the loss of well-trained employees.
Managing Stress
Let's face it - the workplace can be a stressful environment. The key to a healthier workplace is to reduce that
stress to it's lowest possible level. Work should be fun, not a constant chore. Invigorated, enthusiastic workers
take pride in their work and that pride shows outside your company's doors. By helping your staff to reduce and
manage stressful parts of their job, your company gets a boost in the bottom line. We show your employees powerful
stress reducing and managing skills that you can take to the bank.
Coping Skills
It's impossible to eliminate all stress, but that doesn't mean what's left has to show up in your bottom line. More
important, workplace stress isn't the only source of stress your business needs to address! Stress from family,
finances, kids and many others enter the building when your employees walk in for work too. Having good coping
skills will help keep all of this in check.
Employee Morale
We spend so much time at the job that, if it's not enjoyable, every area of our lives are affected. When your team
feels connected to each other as friends and enjoy working together, much stress is automatically relieved. A big
part of our programs is dedicated to building positive, productive linkages between team members - making them last
longer.
